Reverend Cindy Casey, Minister of Word Sacrament and Pastoral Care

Reverend Cindy Casey has been serving Kanata United Church since July 1, 2018.  While she was Ordained in May of 2018, her dedication and work in the church of more than 25 years, was preceded by 5 years of offering leadership in Children & Youth work at Beaconsfield United Church, in the suburbs of Montreal. Cindy’s lived experience is one of kindness, compassion, and advocacy. Her deep listening skills, along with her ability to read a situation and respond effectively, have helped her help others, as they charter the difficult territory of life transitions.

Internationally, her experience has included leadership towards the building and ongoing operations of a Literacy Centre in Saint Rock, Haiti as part of the former Montreal Presbytery’s response to the devastating earthquake in 2010. As well, she was actively involved in the work of the Beaconsfield Initiative, a local congregational ministry, that was dedicated to Mining Justice and Human Rights in the Philippines.

Her commitment, advocacy and support to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community has spanned more than two decades. At KUC, as part of this community’s commitment upon becoming an Affirming Community of Faith, she has offered her leadership and experience to bringing to fruition a 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Centre known as Centre33.  The Centre, a ministry of KUC, is located on the church grounds, with the strong and ongoing support of the church community.  This is the second such Centre that Cindy has been involved in forming.

Cindy is dedicated to ensuring that those who envisioned the church, built the church and served its courts, committees and teams, along side those who have walked through the church doors for the very first time, receive a warm welcome, in a caring and nurturing environment, maintaining the tradition of KUC being a place where all are welcome!

Reaching out beyond the church doors, living our faith, and engaging with the world are key foundations of who Cindy is as a person, and as lived out through her Call to ministry.  Working alongside teams of volunteers and staff, offering leadership or a helping hand as needed, her attention to acknowledging the history, stories and traditions of Indigenous Peoples, lifting up opportunities for marginalized communities and supporting the organizations that work tirelessly to serve such communities, along with a deep love and passion for Pastoral Care, Worship that is relevant to the ongoing needs of our world, and meeting people where they are on their journey of faith, is part of who she is and how she engages.

For Cindy, Ministry is a deep, ever-present, and ever-changing Call, and she Cindy brings her 30 plus years of experience, ministry, pastoral care, outreach and leadership to KUC!

Joshua Riddoch, Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry

Joshua Riddoch joined the KUC family in September 2025 as CYF Director. Joshua is pursuing full-time studies in History & Geography (minor Film Studies) at Carleton University where he is a Research Assistant and winner of the prestigious Professor J.K. (Keith) Johnson Memorial Scholarship in history. Joshua has lived in the Kanata Lakes area for five years where he attended Earl of March Secondary School. In his time at Earl, Joshua gained valuable experience in leadership through the drama department by directing two class plays and leading the competitive improv team.

Joshua’s faith journey began in early childhood under the kind and nurturing care of his family, but especially his Nana. His walk with Christ was dramatically changed in the COVID-19 pandemic as he embarked on a deep study of the scriptures, theology and ecclesiastical history. He has since read the Bible cover-to-cover multiple times, preached at youth programming and taught Sunday school classes. He is always eager to have a chat about theology and the Bible.

When he’s not at Carleton or KUC, Joshua can be found volunteering with Compassion Canada, hiking, playing squash, or watching the West Ham game.

Peter Bayer, Director of Music

Peter Bayer holds a BA in Organ Performance and Classics from The Catholic University of America and is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists. He is currently writing his PhD dissertation in the Classics department at the University of Toronto on the theme of the Inner Teacher in Clement of Alexandria, Augustine of Hippo, and the ancient Platonist philosophical tradition. He has recently been blessed with a beautiful wife and twin daughters.

Before becoming director at KUC, he was Bevan Organ Scholar at Trinity College, Toronto, while maintaining a busy schedule as a substitute organist. He was a semifinalist in the 2025 Canadian National Organ Competition and has performed numerous recitals in Washington D.C. and environs, and Toronto, including notably at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, D.C. and St. James Cathedral, Toronto.
