Our Minister & Staff Team

Reverend Cindy Casey, Minister of Word Sacrament and Pastoral Care

Reverend Cindy Casey has been serving Kanata United Church since July 1, 2018.  While she was Ordained in May of 2018, her dedication and work in the church of more than 25 years, was preceded by 5 years of offering leadership in Children & Youth work at Beaconsfield United Church, in the suburbs of Montreal. Cindy’s lived experience is one of kindness, compassion, and advocacy. Her deep listening skills, along with her ability to read a situation and respond effectively, have helped her help others, as they charter the difficult territory of life transitions.

Internationally, her experience has included leadership towards the building and ongoing operations of a Literacy Centre in Saint Rock, Haiti as part of the former Montreal Presbytery’s response to the devastating earthquake in 2010. As well, she was actively involved in the work of the Beaconsfield Initiative, a local congregational ministry, that was dedicated to Mining Justice and Human Rights in the Philippines.

Her commitment, advocacy and support to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community has spanned more than two decades. At KUC, as part of this community’s commitment upon becoming an Affirming Community of Faith, she has offered her leadership and experience to bringing to fruition a 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth Centre known as Centre33.  The Centre, a ministry of KUC, is located on the church grounds, with the strong and ongoing support of the church community.  This is the second such Centre that Cindy has been involved in forming.

Cindy is dedicated to ensuring that those who envisioned the church, built the church and served its courts, committees and teams, along side those who have walked through the church doors for the very first time, receive a warm welcome, in a caring and nurturing environment, maintaining the tradition of KUC being a place where all are welcome!

Reaching out beyond the church doors, living our faith, and engaging with the world are key foundations of who Cindy is as a person, and as lived out through her Call to ministry.  Working alongside teams of volunteers and staff, offering leadership or a helping hand as needed, her attention to acknowledging the history, stories and traditions of Indigenous Peoples, lifting up opportunities for marginalized communities and supporting the organizations that work tirelessly to serve such communities, along with a deep love and passion for Pastoral Care, Worship that is relevant to the ongoing needs of our world, and meeting people where they are on their journey of faith, is part of who she is and how she engages.

For Cindy, Ministry is a deep, ever-present, and ever-changing Call, and she Cindy brings her 30 plus years of experience, ministry, pastoral care, outreach and leadership to KUC!
