Music at Kanata United Church

We provide opportunities for all ages and abilities to offer their musical gifts

in worship and to develop friendship by making music with others.

What music is played during services?

We are using pipe organ and piano at all services,

supplemented by guitar, drums, flute, cello and mandolin.

What type of hymns do we sing?

We sing a wide range of traditional and contemporary hymns.

Our three choirs, featuring singers from age 3 to adults, sing during the 10:30 services.

There are also pageants and musicals.

Children's Choir  - Ages 3-8

Be part of the process to rename this choir for the fall - formally Bullfrogs & Butterflies Choir, will continue under the leadership of Sally and Jennifer Duke. Watch the August newsletter for further information.

Practice: Every Wednesday evening - 6:30-7:15 p.m.

Intermediate Choir - Ages 8-14

Directed by Sally Duke B.A., M.A.

Practice: Every Thursday evening - 7:00-8:00 p.m.

September to the end of May

Program:

Members sing in church most Sundays. By rehearsing the hymns and responses, they become familiar with a rich variety of Church music, with the order of service, and with the seasons of the liturgical year. They also learn to become worship leaders. Once a month this choir sings an anthem, by itself, or with the Adult Choir. Members also enjoy preparing musical plays.

Adult Choir

Directed by Sally Duke B.A., M.A.

Practice: Every Thursday evening - 8:15-10:00 p.m.

September to June

Program:

The role of the Adult Choir is to lead the musical worship of the congregation. Anthems are chosen to represent a wide variety of styles and periods, and to vary in difficulty so that both beginners and experienced singers are comfortable. The choir's music is meant to inspire the congregation and enlarge on the themes of worship through musical expression.

The Adult Choir also values its role as a caring, close community within the larger Church family. New members are always welcome.

Instrumentalists Groups

Instrumentalists are also welcome to join in the ministry of music. From time to time, musicians who play string or wind instruments, drums, guitar, organ or piano, enhance Kanata United Church's worship. They have formed a small ensembles and even full orchestras. For more information about one of the instrumental groups speak to Sally Duke or call the Church Office.
